Where I live, it's common for there to be deer/vehicle collisions. I have never hit a deer. However I have hit a bathtub!
I was driving home from work, in our Ford Escape that was only about 6 months old, and a 4 year old in the back. Ahead, in the "slow" lane, was a pickup with something big in the back. I'm less than a mile from home and driving in the passing lane (I merge over early, depending upon traffic, because I live off the highway and have to cross over to get to my side). All of a sudden, the car in front of me brakes and moves to the left, tires on the yellow line. There's a bumpy rectangular thing sliding on the highway so I start doing the same thing. The car in front manages to avoid it, but I can't get over to the left anymore because it's March and I have no idea how soft the median is and don't want to overturn the SUV. Not knowing what that thing was, my thoughts are "My God, there's a concrete table coming at me!" I ht it with the front passenger side bumper and it bounces off (where it went exactly I'm not sure). I pull over to the right and back up as much as possible (a good samaratin pulled over too to help the pickup driver). I walk back and find out what that was. Come to find out it was a bathtub. The guy was trying to get the bathroom remodel finished before his wife delivered their baby. I don't know what kind of tub it was but I'm sure it was ruined. If it was fiberglass, it was probably shattered/cracked so badly that it wouldn't hold water; if it was metal, I bet there was a dent where it made contact with my SUV. I had a dent that his insurance had to fix. At least everyone was Ok, although the 4 year old complained that the seatbelt choked him when I was slamming on the brakes (better than bruises, broken bones, or death).
