Whats the difference between Cuckoo and Barred?

I know this is an old thread but hopefully someone is watching it :)

So in 2 different posts the Dominique is listed as both Barred and Cockoo....

"Irregular" or "Smutty" Barring as in the Dominique, Holland, Maran and (hatchery) Barred Plymouth Rock.

Barring as in the Barred Rock, Dominique and Cuckoo patterned breeds (Cuckoo is considered " "Irregular" or "Smutty" Barring) is Dominate sex-linked with the restriction of Black pigment in the bars.

So which is correct? Are correct Dominiques Barred or Cuckoo?

Thanks
Val

I'll post a pic of my girl on edit when I get on my phone and access the pics.

I have 3 confirmed CMs. I have one that came shipped with my order, but has the yellow legs, much larger comb than my other cms, but we think is laying a dark egg. All the other BRs we had laid a brown egg; darker than the BO, but none nearly as dark as this girl. This is all hatchery stock. And the eggs are huge- larger than the other cm egg. Her barring is not very good; but not quite as smutty as my cms. She'll never win any beauty contests, but she looks to me more like my other barred rocks did and not so much like my current cms.

Think she's just a mutt? {bad pic because she was moving}

We think this is one of her eggs:

You can see the very large one in the box- I am sure at least one of these eggs is from a cm. ;)

No the OP means color. There's more barred and cuckoo breeds out there than just Marans and Rocks

Cuckoos are usually a darker, more smudgy, improper type barring. They also feather out normally.

Barred birds are usually much more crisp and defined in barring, and a good non-production bred bird will have slow feathering.
My Isabel cuckoo Orpington is never going to feather out, he was born MAY4th
