I have hens that have been laying for about 2 wks now. I received my first soft egg this afternoon. I see where some request Oyster Shell, I have grit. What is the diffrence??

Grit, which is usually sold in the form of crushed granite, helps aid in digestion by grinding up what the chicken eats.
Oyster shell contains calcium which the hen's body uses to make strong healthy shells.
Ideally, you should offer both. If your chickens are free range or have access to dirt, you don't really have to offer grit. Oyster shell should be offered to laying hens no matter what.
