whats the most annoying response you get when people find out you have chickens?

I don't tell anyone about my chickens except my closest friends and people at work. I haven't gotten any negative responses. It could be because they don't have any negative opinions or that they just like me enough not to state them. I can't wait to have enough eggs to share. I want to share with the world!

I always get wow I never thought their was chickens that pretty what are those? WHAT GAMEFOWL ARE THOSE THEM FIGHTING CHICKENS THEY DONT ATTACK YOU? No they're very decile. U don't fight them huh? No just a hobby. It's like if I have games I must be fighting them like I have 3 pitbulls so I must be fighting them too. I don't really like the stereotype but I love my fowl and wouldn't trade them for anything.

It makes it almost impossible to find docile chickens as everybody raises them specifically for cock fighting. Some people even have big signs on their yard saying FIGHTING COCKS FOR SALE or COCK FIGHTS HERE. it truly saddens me.

me too! Lately it's always "so when are you getting an asil rooster so you can fight him?" My response is always ignored. People see me as a tree hugger for it, but I refuse to engage in animal blood sports. The old Mexican neighbor even called me a "maricon" which I believe is offensive Spanish slang for homosexual- he keeps chickens too, but unlike most BYCers he culls the females and keeps the males. I'm super glad that you have such a great support network! I guess there's something in the water here cause people sneer. Honestly, if not for BYC I might feel totally discouraged. I do wish someone would want some eggs but so far-no dice.I don't believe that having a surplus is bad either lol. I'll be making plenty of custards and meringues if folks don't start warming up to my flock around here!!

I've had a few of the same reactions, I finally got to the point where when someone reacted negatively I stopped telling my 'chicken story' and asked them calmly 'what? you don't like chickens?" One of the people who told me they were dirty birds is of course already asking for free eggs when they start laying! And the eggs will be good because I love to love my chickens with plenty of treats and pets! Forget everyone else and enjoy your chickens!!!

I wholeheartedly agree!! Darn bubble-busters! My gals aren't dirty at all. I clean their coop everyday and probably treat them better than my dogs (who are also spoiled btw) lol. I'm beginning to think they're just jealous of the obvious joy my flock brings.

sounds like a place where I'd like to live. Plus, it's a good thing too-considering pretty soon you'll have about 20 brand new eggs every day lol
