Anyone else scan through these and laugh! It's like asking who has the smartest kid!!! My vote is for Black Australorpes! Not fancy, just big, shiney, and handsome!

Here are just a few of mine that folks have commented positively about....

My Blue Wheaten Ameraucana roo, Geoffrey

I know! We are all so proud of our babies...I saw a bumper sticker the other day saying "My Jack Russle is smarter than your honour student"...maybe we need to develop one for chicken owners.
What beautiful birds on this thread, wow!
I am with you streetglide. My bias is toward Black Australorps...beautiful, shiny black birds with feathers like velvet and gentle and friendly personalities. But then again...mine are of course gifted

If I could only pick one breed for a dual purpose and beautiful bird it would be Brahmas.

They lay large brown eggs, cold and heat hardy, sweet, beautiful. I've never had a mean rooster, and I've had quite a few roosters. They are very gentle to the hens too.

Cochins, and Silkies are very beautiful and sweet. But I've found the sweet baby roosters turn mean when they get older if you handle them too much when they are young and friendly. Plus they don't lay as many or as big of eggs.

Every rooster I've made a pet went on to attack me when it got older. Roosters are better left with a little respect, hens are pets.

BLRW are beautiful birds! But they are a little more standoffish, and I haven't had a mean rooster yet. But I could see one of mine getting a mean streak. They give me the stink eye as it is.
