I know they all start in their own time. I'm just wondering who has the biggest freeloader.

My Wanda Beth is just about 10 months and completely disinterested in eggs because she's too busy picking on the younger chicks that will probably start laying before her. 🤣 Who can beat that?

Wanda Beth is now 11 months old and no closer to laying than she was 6 months ago. 🤪

I almost thought she laid an egg a couple of weeks ago. There was an egg that didn't match anyone else's color int he box. Turned out to me one of my molters coming back into lay and her color was just a little off. Glad to have her back but dang it, Wanda!!!

My oldest to start was a splash Hamburg. She laid her first egg at 13 months old.
To be fair poor Ducky was bought as a started pullet so I cannot say she was fed well in her early days. She had also been beaten bloody and bare by the RIR's she was housed with. it took a long time for her to recover.

She was an excellent layer after that and one of my very favorite birds ever.

I'm glad Ducky got a new lot on life and turned out happily ever after!

Me too. She lived to be 8 years old. Ducky is on the left.
