What's the rarest breed or variety you have?

i think as chicken enthusiasts our idea of "rare" is skewed, we're thinking of crevecoeurs and spitzahaubens where as the average person would probably be surprised by a polish. (in america at least) lol

IMO, the ones that know what is more rare are the "chicken enthusiasts". Just because your average person might be surprised by a certain breed, doesn't mean that they aren't on every corner. Polish for example are very popular. Same with Silkies. While they are crazy looking and surprising to non chicken people, they are super common.

Oh, absolutely! That's the same with any enthusiast in any hobby, though. I wouldn't know a rare variety of cultivated flower from a common one, for instance, nor could I tell you the difference between some varieties of fish that I'm sure are radically different from one another somehow. I've seen people post about differences between varieties of dog breeds on here and I stare at the picture for a long time and, yup, those are dogs. But I for sure recognize a rare chicken breed when I read about or see them!

How is she? I am getting one next month!

She is very docile, I’ve had 2 total..both were and are on the bottom of the pecking order. My first one was very skiddish . 2nd one not as bad but she stays up by the house and doesn’t venture off very far.

HAHAHA. I am the same with some chicken breeds are you are about dogs. (I've been in the "dog world" since the 70's.)

Hmm. My rarest chickens are probably my Russian Orloffs I recently got from GFF. I had never heard of them before.

Ideal Poultry has been selling them for years (currently at about 1/4 the price Greenfire Farms is charging.)

I can't say whether Greenfire has better quality or not, but they certainly have high prices. I think about half of their breeds can also be found at other hatcheries, so if you find anything else you like on their site, it might be worth checking other hatcheries before placing an order.

Spangled Russian Orloffs are nice, pretty birds
I had a few in the past, because I liked the small comb (as compared with Speckled Sussex, that has a similar feather color but a larger comb.)

Yes!! She is the bestest ever!! She is SOOOO quiet.. but she KNOWS that paper bags have McDs fries in them.. and then its pure monkey screams. She talks like a little muppet to me.. she says I love you, come here, hey baby, what are you doing, good morning, FEED ME!
