Whats the squatting about.

My DH picked up one of our buff orps hens and started scratching her back near her tail. Every time he scritched, she made a beep like a Volkswagen horn. Scritch, beep, scritch, beep. Don't know if the roo has made her tender back there or if she just makes that noise when she's scratched in the right spot....
