It is 55 degrees F and sunny today! What a difference from yesterday! It is supposed to go very cold in a couple days, predicted to have highs of twenty and lows down to 5 degrees F and chance of up to 9 inches snow! That is not typical winter weather here. It has become common the last few years, however. The rapid and huge fluctuations are normal here. Just not below 10 or 15 degrees F.

Wow, a lot of Windy New Moon weather happening in many areas. I've been keeping a diary of this for many years now and will plan my gardening and family events around it, with much success.

Thursday 11th January 10.44a.m. Gloomy and grey. Light wind 9.3 / 18.5kph S, Hg is 67%, Temp is 24.4c / 75.9F heading for 27c / 81F. Showers increasing. Partly cloudy. High chance of showers, most likely during this afternoon and evening. Light winds becoming southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day (Solar Noon) then becoming light in the evening.

Moon is 0%

It is usually fireworks that ring in the new year — but for farmers and graziers across Queensland, 2024 has been welcomed in with lightning, thunder and much-needed rain.

It is already the wettest January on record since 2012 for parts of the south-west such as Cunnamulla, which saw flash flooding after 175 millimetres fell in the town on Monday.

That's almost three times the January average, according to Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Felim Hanniffy.

"The past couple of days there's been a very active trough and we've seen localised falls of 50mm to 100mm with storm activity," Mr Hanniffy said.

"The atmosphere remains very moist, so there's still a risk to some parts of the interior of further localised heavy falls."

He said the rain was thanks to a "humid, moist air mass" covering most of the state, which remained very active and that more rain would be on the cards as monsoons developed in the north in coming days.

Graziers enjoying good rain and 'fat stock' :)
