what's this on my Americauna's face?

My 5 month old Americauna Hen has this weird red marking around her mouth and eyes. What is it?


I don't see any bugs on her and I have DE in her dusting box, which she uses, in her bed and nesting box. She eats what my other 2 hens eat and they don't have that. She is not yet laying. She seems to be eating fine and is 2nd in command in pecking order. Any suggetions?

someone told me that this is a sign that they are getting ready to start laying? Any truth to that?

It looks normal to me. My EE hen's face turned red right before she started laying.

I don't see anything unusual. If you are refering to the reddness around the mouth. That's just her coloring.

Good to know! Hey, I'm from the "ville" but now live out in Oregon. I bet your hens are almost melting in all that heat out there, yikes! It's been hot! Hey, thanks so much for your info. i was just worried she may have some weird rash from something she ate in the yard but she is due to start laying any time now! I can't wait! Thanks again!
