Hi there,
I've recently seen my Rooster (his name is Flame) hopping anytime he runs and walks?
I thought he was hopping over spores (weapons)?
Until I saw this swollen flesh under his 1 of his feet?
He's a free ranging fowl. Actually all my chickens are. They go anywhere they want. He sleeps in the tree.
Can anything be done about this?
His health is good. But it's the limping is the problem.
Here's photos:

2nd picture is a comparison on how his normal foot looks.
Thank You

He maybe starting "bumble foot", maybe picked up a thorn or something ... When I enlarge the first picture to the left of the swelling, toward where the feathering starts is a tiny scab with the surrounding area red. Then on what I call the "thumb" toe there's another tiny scab but it's not red. If you look really close to the swelling area, towards the center, you will see the edge of a scab, I think.

You may want to soak his foot in an Epsom Salt Bath, it'll help to sooth and maybe loosen the scabs. Bumble Foot is an staph infection, therefore wear gloves when treating. Search in the forum for bumble foot to read up on different ways to treat. I've never don't surgery but have done the soaking method. Hang in there, others with more experience will be peeping in ....

From my notes, several treatments.
Soak in Epsom Salt bath, remove plug, treat (keratin softners; petroleum jelly, AD ointment) wrap.

Green Epsom Salt poultice to draw out the core. You apply on foot, semi loosely wrap with gauze and vet wrap secure, if bird is loose put some duct tape to keep secure/dry. Change dressing every 2 days. Can take up to 3 months to resolve and yes that’s tedious work. It will save the bird. Make sure pens are clean not lots of manure around.

Tricide Neo - <1T/gal distilled water (solution good for 5days), soak 5 - 7 minutes 2x day, dry foot put Neosporin, wrap
