What's this weird thingie I found on a tree? I have pics.

I had a Praying Mantis egg case hatch out in my house {on purpose} that we had found on our Japanese Maple tree. We put it in a bug cage, and one day we woke up to bunches of lil' Mantises crawling around the cage. We took pictures of them, then let them outside by the tree. It was very cool. But the egg case looked way different than that.

Praying mantis' are awesome. Michael catches them whenever he can... you can hand feed them pesty bugs and they're violent eaters... fun to watch. I have never seen an egg casing but I know you can buy them at the teacher store up the street from our house and hatch them, but if they can't get away from each other (ie: in a cage or jar of some sort) they will kill each other. :) Michael's favorite bug. :)

A very interesting find. I love Praying Mantises as well

This is a cute little guy that lived on my Abraham Darby rosebush. He is enjoying eating a dragonfly that got too close! When I find the egg cases or matids in our backyard now, I put them in the front yard so the chickens won't eat them.
