What's up with this comb?

I did work on comb genetics. Silkies do not have V combs. They have what is called a walnut comb, which is a cross of pea and rose. Therefore, they have one Rose copy, one Pea copy and one Single copy.
Being that single is recessive, it is not expressed. When a silkie is croased to a Single comb, most offspring will be pea, some rose and some single with all having a split somewhere. Silkie combs started as a muddle of a lot of things.
Just realized the cockerel is mixed.

Yes, I'm aware of comb genetics. As he is a mix and was hatched from "mixed breed" eggs I bought, he is a genetic unknown. I know that he has rose single factor, he may or may not have pea. Phenotypically, he has a messy walnut with side springs.

What I am considering is the possibility of enhancing the expression of the gene or genes responsible, as I have seen photographs of a bird with two rows of single combs side by side, similar to a buttercup comb.

Understood. That idea of two rows of single comb is what I'm wondering if my boy will give when mated to a single comb, then back to his daughter.

I have d’uccles and both have single combs, but their some of their babies came out with side sprigs! It is genetically in him and you should not breed him bc all you will be doing is putting more side sprig genes in your flock!:D:idunno

Noted! Yes, I have realized that it is just a really poor single comb.
He will just be our spoiled pet :D
