I have this beautiful Blue OEGB pullet. I noticed the other day she was standing with her eyes shut & when I picked her up she had a hard time keeping her eyes open. She has a little bit of a discharge & her eyes seemed to be a lil more sunken into her head. I put eye drops in her eyes and put a little bit of A&D ointment on them. They seem to be a little better but does anyone know why she is like this and what I can do to help her heal faster and better?? Here are some pictures.

Gloria had that. I bought some tetracycline 250, separated her from the flock and put it in her water. It took a couple of weeks but she got better. Both her eyes got like that, but one more so to the point it was big & red and like a giant bubble. Nastiness.

Its a relatively small bag of powder (400g) and cost $20 here at UFA. As a really small amount of medication is required in relation to how much water is used.

Ie: I took one of those 4L water jugs (or an empty & clean 4L Aunt Jemima syrup jug) and added a 1/4 tsp to all that water. Shook it up & that's what she got for the week +. Instructions say 3-5 days, but her eyes still weren't completely normal at the 5 day mark so I continued on until the jug of water was gone.

We *think* what may have happened was she got pecked by one of the bigger girls and then eventually it swell up. But it wasn't right away.

Hopefully this helps.

If I can find some of that I will try it. I do have bigger chickens but I also have 7 more bantams that run w/ her and she was the only one that ended up like this. I do think that she got pecked in the eye cause I have Barred Rock and for some reason they are really bad to pick and poke on other chickens. Thank u so much!!
