Thank you! But what do u mean by mineral oil?Crusty buildup in the ears is reason to be concerned. As @Daisy the Silkie mentioned, it could be an ear infection.
What I would do is to take mineral oil, warmed up a bit, and drizzle it onto the crusty buildup. You may need to have a helper hold the rooster on his side and keep his head horizontal while you pour the oil onto the crust.
Do one ear at a time. After drizzling the oil, wait with him in the horizontal position for a couple minutes, then gently pull as much of the crust away as you can. Repeat the oil if the crust is stubborn the farther into the ear it goes. Use a Q-tip with much of the cotton pulled off so it will fit better into the ear. You want to remove all the crust you can.
If you have an antibiotic ointment, put that into the ears after you clean them out. Repeat twice a day until the ears are normal again. It shouldn't take but a few days.
Yes it is crusty. It looks like cauliflower. It isn't moving. He does have lice but not many because he doesn't take dust baths because of his feet (curved toes). It doesn't seem to be bothering him and it doesn't look like eggs. The color is brown.
It might be an ear infection
Where are you located in the world?Thank you! But what do u mean by mineral oil?
Thank you! Now I won't have to go to the store!Liquid parafin or baby oil are other names, fragranced, or types of mineral oil. Hydrogen peroxide is very good to use in ears to soften material so that it can be cleaned out with QTips or cotton swabs.
