whats wrong with my hen? *video* unbalanced...NEW VIDEO~post#385

Pip&Squeek2 :

Thank God this is a continuing thread. I was scared that everyone was done with it.

I hardly slept last night due to being excited about trying the vit B therapy. First thing this morning I ran to the store for the vitamin B and grabbed some Vitamin E as well. I bought yogurt, soft baby cat food, cottage cheese and creamed corn. I had no luck with the cottage cheese, yogurt, or corn. But finally got it to eat chick starter absorbed in crushed vit B and water. S/he LOVED it. I just hope it's getting enough and that it isn't too diluted. I will just keep doing this feeding thing every hour. I also have Vit B and E diluted in the water. The little chick tries so hard to get over to the food and water, which are only a few inches away, but s/he can't balance enough to get it in the mouth. So I have been holding it up while it eats from my hand...same with the water. I let it pool up in the palm of my hand and that's how it drinks.

I have been obsessed with this situation because s/he seems alert and pain free (Until trying to walk and falling into things). I was thinking about making a little helmet for it so that it doesn't hurt it's brain. I have also tried making a sling like thing for it to sit in but I haven't figured it out yet.

Please keep us all posted with any good or bad news, the more we know then more we can try and do for them. No matter how many times my family has told me to put it down, I just can't do it until I know I have done everything possible. We have became real close and I don't want to loose this battle.

Prayers for all our chickens.

Im going to stay with this thread as long as there is interest and participation. I want to hear back from all on here regarding their babies' recovery stories.

This is the site that gave me the idea for my chair design:

Sara, did I miss it ? Did you say how old your sick chick is? Baby tried hard to manage for himself too. It is just their nature even with us there to help them. Baby seemed so happy and pain-free also. That is why I couldnt give up on him. I just didnt think it was Marek's no matter what others advised, I couldnt cull him.

I have wondered this, too. I have tried checking and can't feel anything obviously amiss. She doesn't register any discomfort when I'm poking and prodding.

But so far she is gobbling up everything put in front of her with the Vit. B and so we remain hopeful.

When we take her out for walks she is off like a pistol shot - having lots of fun running around. She just trips all over everything. But her grasp with her feet around our fingers feels stronger.

Many prayers being said to St. Francis (patron saint of animals) for all affected chickens.

lobzi, little queeny has decided not to eat for me when i want her to anymore,so should i smash up the vit. b and put it in water then feed her it with an eye dropper?

Yes, do whatever it takes to get it down her. Baby went through a time of not wanting to drink that is why I coating his food with it. I used a dropper bottle but anything that will let you drop the solution near the beak should do. Their instinct seems to be to drink if the liquid is near their beak. Make the solution concentrated in case she wont take in much.

My little one is almost 4 weeks now. I'm keeping up with the chick starter, water, and vit B mix. That is the only thing it will really chow down on.

I'm curious as well about the vitamin E. Can you overdose them with E? The only vit E I could find is in a little capsule that I poke and then squeeze the fluid out. However, it all clumps together when I add it to water so I am going to have to add it to the chick starter, water, and vit B next feeding time.

Does anyone know how long it can take to see results? Whether or not this is going to help? I don't mind doing it at all but with s/he being so tiny and all, shouldn't it take a short amount of time for the vit B and/or E to get into it's system? I know that patients is a virtue but I feel so bad for the little one.

I am so thankful I found this place and I hope I am not being annoying. I am still in the learning stage of a chickens life. So having this happen makes me feel even more useless.

Look forward to hearing how the other "wobblers" are doing.
