What's wrong with their feathers?

Definitely praying for some hatchings for you all!

The hens have stopped laying again this week. We are experiencing some very unusual weather from the hurricane in Mexico - torrential rain. So I hope that is all it is, and the laying will start again in a few days.

One a good note - the one F1 egg hatched Tuesday and the little blue chick is doing great. I have 4 more due next week.

The next generation is now begun!

Oh - and I'm not having luck with shipped eggs either. I received a smashed up box of Buff Orpingtons from hincks and was able to hatch only three out of 16 eggs.

Fingers crossed for you and good hatching vibes sent!

Thank you all for the good hatching wishes.

I am so nervous with this clutch, and I just do not know why………not like they are difficult eggs to hatch.

I check them twice a day, I just might sleep in the closet with them starting on day 18.

I almost, almost slipped them under a broody, have a buff orp setting now and a splash who will once she figures out what all the hormones running around her body mean; but I did not. Both are first time broodies and I noticed the buff was not very gentle with her eggs and has already broken two. So they are nestled in the bator with a couple of my Orp eggs – just in case only one silkied Amer hatches, this way I am not raising a lone chick.

I'd send hatching vibes to both of you if it wouldn't absolutely ruin your chances! My last three shipped egg hatches (two in 'bator, one under broody) gave me a grand total of ONE chick, who needed to be culled immediately for 'improper development'. It looked just like Big Bird too!

Poor thing.

I can't wait to see (more) pics of everyone's birds though!

for you.

I know it gets so hard emotionally, the hoping and wishing and then to have to cull

First chick I had to cull, I waited three days, hoping some miracle would happen and the problems I saw would not be there in the morning - I am a bone head

I got my first blue egg!!!! It is from a Blue Ameraucana penned in with my original Silkied Ameraucanas. In this pen are my original 3 and 1 Black and 1 Blue Ameraucana. The only roosters are my 2 originals. They are now 22 weeks old. They do not appear to be mating at all. I will crack open this egg (later) to check for fertility. Hoping I can move on with this project, too!

The second group is still growing out (Ameraucanas from Paul Smith). They are about 12 weeks old now, so it will be awhile before they are ready.

Oh my goodness what a great story! I have just gotten my first chickens ever and I have been "skulking" around this website to get so much good information. I have really enjoyed reading how this project has gone so far and can't wait to see if the first generation comes out with the soft feathers. Once there are more of these beautiful birds circulating, I am hoping that I will be able to get some. I even think my "reluctant" husband would like to have some since he thinks the blue eggs would look wonderful. LOL Keep up the wonderful work ladies and gentlemen. Hoping that everyone who is waiting for some eggs to hatch has great sucess!!
