What's your experience been with McMurray?

I did read your entire post, and it seems like its the 20th post Ive read recently ranting about McMurray sending chicks over the holiday. Each post is exactly the same; everyone wanting to blame McMurray. Others on this thread have posted better than I could, so Ill just leave it as I agree with what others have posted here.

I ordered mine from mcmurray april will be 2 years ago, only lost one, but I started them on terimicin and water as soon as I got them home and put them in a box with a light over them, they are all I have now and they are doing great. I didn't want the extra filler chicken so they didn't sent it. Sorry for all your problems. but since I ordered in april that may have made a difference. marrie

it seems to me that MM is running a very large opperation and quite a successful business- chicks and other baby birds are quite delicate creatures- they probably have many people working for them, I doubt the owners are the only ones sending out orders and once they're in the PO's hands what can MM do? I'm actually really shocked at how readily they offer replacements... I know these situations are sad and irritating but it just seems like bad luck and maybe the folks in packing not doing their job? There are a ton of hatcheries out there from what I've found, some seem smaller scale... maybe they would be a better bet for you?

I would have gotten my money back, at leats they made an effort to appease you twice, that's more then most business' will do... sorry this happened though

I have never ordered from any hatchery other then M McM and I have never had to give a single bird antibiotics. I think very highly of them indeed. Sorry for anyone who has had bad luck, but we do it to ourselves by having chicks shipped about - not exactly a "natural" situation, now is it? If you don't want that risk, buy only from local breeders. Please don't slander an excellent, hardworking business for unfortunate, real-life occurrences.

No comment on MM because I am waiting for warmer weather to get my chicks.

But one comment, or question I guess. Why would they ship out on Saturdays? The hatchery I ordered from in the past ships on Mondays to assure movement of the package. I can't believe that chicks are moving on Sundays. Maybe I am wrong...

I have actually driven to McMurray - it is about 4 hours away - to be able to pick up smaller orders (10 instead of 25). It isn't that big of an operation!

Hatcheries replace chicks readily for customer satisfaction - like many other businesses that refund/replace product when the customer isn't happy.

The part I don't like about hatcheries is the number of roo chicks that are destroyed, because people like me! order just girl chicks. I'm part of the problem, but.....I don't raise meat birds and so..

Have to say McMurray birds have a higher quality around here than some other hatcheries, but I'm sure everyone has their favorites.

Sorry for all who have had to deal with DOA chicks - it can be upsetting.

I've had 4 separate orders from them, and other than the order that I foolishly ordered in February (hello! I'm in Alaska!!) I've not had anything but beautiful healthy chicks. The 4 that I lost from my first order was my fault... it was only 7°F when I went to pick them up. I learned the hard way, and will only order after April. But they sent extras, and refunded the cost of all 4 chicks, even when I told them that two were the packing peanuts that I didn't order!

I'm sorry to hear about your chicks. I just received 25 very healthy chicks from MM. Everyone I spoke to when I called was nice and helpful. I also ordered them to be shipped on the holiday weekend. I got a call from the USPS at 6:15am Tuesday morning. All my chicks where very healthy.

Good Luck!

Quick update. I received my replacement chicks this am and they were in great shape! MM even through in a few extras of the same breeds that I ordered. First class operation!

We've ordered hundreds and hundreds of chicks from MM and never had any big problems. We've had one show up dead occasionally but it seems like I always get extras in my order anyway so even with the one I lost I still come out ahead. Chicks are always very healthy and we never lose them after they arrive. We probably won't be ordering from them anymore as we're going to start doing our own breeding and incubating (thanks to all you evil enablers out there) but I like MM and would recommend them to anyone based solely on my experience.
