What's Your Favorite Breed and Why?

Well i like the white rock we bought them from a lady who said they were wyandottes...after research i found out they were not that plus my mom says she can pick one up and just pet her and the hen doesnt care and then she holds the hen and lets my two nephews pet it when the oldest saw them he said " Beautiful White Chickens " but the chicken i really want the most is a Yellow Buff Orpington ^_^ Now thats a beautiful chicken!

I got two week old Buff Orpingtons solely on reputation. My grandmother, (and great-grandmother for that matter) swore by Dominickers. BUT if I will ever
add to my flock I will try Americaners or Easter Eggers. Or maybe those Dominickers.
The BO's have been great so far, but are only six weeks old as of this writing.

we always had dominiques, rir's , and games. even tried ameraucanas ee, barred rocks, and bantams. now that we are all growed up we have cubalayas, black australorps , and delawares.

Dutch bantams!!! never meant to get any kind of game bird ... my first Dutchies came in an "assortment" of bantams ... I am now so hooked I can't imagine ever being without them! They are the sweetest, most personable birds ever, and the way the little roos strut their stuff just makes me belly laugh. Can't stay down when I'm around them.

my D'Uccles are amazing, good layers (maybe the best tasting eggs in my opinion) sweet, love to talk to me when i come to the run and beg to be let out to walk the garden with me... especially if im going into the vegetable garden with all the freshly ripening tomatoes

i've got sussex, ameracaunas (well, as close to the real deal as TSC sells

), black australorps and cochins.

the sussex i got when they were full grown, had never been "played" with. still standoffish, but not too bad.

my ameracaunas are the most inquisitive, bold and curious birds. i would have to pick them.

my dad has some BO's, and i'm quite jealous. he says not only are they some bug-eating mothers, they will chase after moths and use their wings to trap them. plus, they are just nice looking birds

My favorite are buff orpington chickens. I like how they are that pretty golden color and are just a gentle bird, keep to themselves and don't cause too much drama. I only have one buff, as I had already purchased a whole flock of chicks. I was just at the store and they had buffs and I had to buy one, so I only have the one buff but she is awesome. If I could do things over I might have purchased more than the one, but there's always next year.

I really like my Black Copper Marans girls. They're big and gentle and lay HUGE beautiful eggs.
However, they eat like pigs and only lay 4ish eggs per week (they compensate in size I suppose) so perhaps they're not best for "production" but I love them anyways. They are not good rangers either.

I'm also rather fond of mutts and various combinations that make up black sexlinks, just because you never know what you'll get and the eggs from each one are different from the others so it's easy to tell who is laying what.

My lone Cuckoo Marans girl is probably the most "outstanding" personality, and my older White Leghorn ladies are the bomb too. These girls get into more "trouble" and are very good rangers.

I suppose I love my BCM girls for their huge distinctive eggs, and my other breeds for their more outgoing personalities. Good to have a mixed flock, best of both worlds!
