What's your favorite/friendliest breed

Probably not a good example as I bought 3 of my 4 hens while they were older and already laying. Very very skittish, especially my Easter egger and Plymouth rock. My buff orpington is not as, will squat for me, and is more friendly.

Now my speckled sussex I raised as a chick, she is by far the friendliest and sweetest by far. She is so gentle, curious, and sometimes just down right goofy, won't think twice to pop up on your lap if your down on her level.

I second Speckled Sussex! Esp if eggs aren't a priority. My girl named 'Comet' because she was always shooting around as a chick has always been the bravest, funniest, follow-you-everywhere, lap bird. Always in my business :p She let's you pet her as much as you want but doesnt like being held too much. She has all kinds of funny antics. She eats a lot and lays small eggs and doesn't lay in the winter. So if eggs aren't a priority, I'd say SS! She makes me smile and laugh everyday!
Dominique as runner-up! Very sweet. Less in-your- face haha
(They are always on my lap together ❤️)

Creme Legbar is my favorite for "sweet" chicken. I have other favorites for curious, funny, follow me around like a puppy, etc. But you just can't go wrong with Creme Legbar as they are just never mean. They can be a little on the shy side but not super shy like Barnevelders and even though you don't do eggs, your friends will be more than happy to get a carton of gorgeous blue CCL eggs. :love Also they are so pretty. This is USA Top Model DNice.

My overall concern with chickens isn’t friendliness, however I don’t enjoy the extreme flightiness of the production strain white Leghorns for example.
The friendliest hen I’ve had was a Buff Orpington. Currently have two Orpingtons a buff and a lavender and neither one is remotely tame. My current tamest is an Amber Star and next would be a couple New Hampshire hens.
Ooh that's interesting. I've never heard of an amber star

Ooh I'm seeing a trend with speckled Sussex and Dominique! Your girls are soooo cute! I love that they lay on you together 😍

My indirect experience with Speckled Sussex is the same. I used to chicken-sit for a friend who travelled often. Her flock wasn't socialized and they were all afraid of people (including her). The only two birds that would let people come close to them were her two Speckled Sussex hens.

I've read too many posts saying speckled Sussex hens are super sweet so.... looks like I have an order for 5/15 lol! I got one speckled Sussex and one Easter egger.

They are on my wishlist, too! Would've gotten some this year, but they are not in stock every week, and the week when I needed chicks (when my broody was ready) they didn't have any at the feed store so I got Wyandottes instead (I've heard they are friendly, too). Maybe next time!

People keep chickens for a variety of reasons, which impacts their favorites based on their preferences. I'd like to know your favorite and friendliest breed. I know a big part is just their overall individual personality. I've read about the buff Orpington war lol and I love mine and even though she's super sweet, she isn't necessarily the friendliest. I have 3 black Australorps, 1 olive egger, 1 buff Orpington. Two of my black australorps are lap chickens.
I recently added 2 polish, 1 sapphire olive egger, and 1 Easter egger. They're about 5 weeks old.
My Easter egger is SO friendly!! She jumps up on my arm almost on command and loooovvvveees to be held. There doesn't seem to be much information on sapphire olive eggers?
Anyways. If I were to get more chickens........ which I'm trying so hard not to but I just love how sweet this Easter egger is, what would be your suggestion for friendly birds!
I don't care about their laying quantity because I don't eat eggs, they're strictly pets :) thanks!!
I also love my Easter egger whom i wasn't even supposed to have. Went to get some and she was the last of her breed left so I tool her and I cannot imagine life without her. My leghorn is also very sweet but I understand that's unusual. My Barred Rocks are friendly too. My orpington is skittish but sweet once she calms down and same with red sex links. My rhode island red are complete bullies though. I only have one of those that will let me hold her. I am considering rehoming all if them but one because they are such bullies
