What's YOUR garbage cost?

Oh wow I only pay like 9 dollars a month

But rual watter is about $60 to $70 a month.

We're out in the boonies with no city or county service, so we have to hire a private trash service. Their prices just went up to about $67 per quarter. They do pick up absolutely as much as you can pile out there, though. One morning recently, when we took our trash out, we could see they'd already been through (we can't put it out the night before, because none of our neighbors keep their dogs from roaming) and picked up, even though they're supposed to not come before 7:30AM. We called and complained, and they actually sent a truck back out to pick up for us.

Still, I liked it better when we lived where the county picked up.

We have a 'transfer station' where I bring the stuff I can't recycle - it goes to a refuse to energy plant a bit south of us.

I have a trash compactor in my kitchen, where anything that can't be recycled goes (no garbage goes in there). Veggie scraps go onto the compost heap outside, meat scraps go into a plastic bag and then into the garbage can in the garage. The garbage can and compactor bag need to be taken to the transfer station about every three weeks, but the recyclables i.e. plastic, cardboard, newspapers, junk mail, etc. all go once a week (they build up fast!). Anything carbonated comes in containers worth 5¢, they go to the store to get my money back

The transfer station is paid for out of our property taxes, all we need to do is get a dump sticker from the town hall. I really prefer this, I can get rid of anything at the dump (we still call it the dump), big things like appliances need a trip ticket that costs $10, but that's fine with me.
