What's your least favorite breed?

After reading all of the pages and staying up this late... I can write what I don't like. Hatchery quality australorp. She looks like a cross with a guinea! Her Shape at least ! My polish (sq) are amazing! And barred rocks hatchery stock were just flat out weird. They went after my toes when I wore flip flops!!

My Delawares were mean and a little bit neurotic. I must have gotten a bad line, though.

I've never owned any, but I can't stand to look at Turkens. I think they are just so so ugly! They remind me of turkey vultures. Yuck. I will never own one. I have even passed up auctions of mixed eggs b/c they list turkens as one of the possible breeds, even if all the others are all breeds I really really want. I just won't take the chance. Oh, and showgirls, too. I think they're even uglier than regular turkens. All that pretty fluff with that grotesque naked neck... ick, gives me the shivers.

I also think white faced black Spanish are pretty ugly.

Turkens and showgirls are at the top of my least favorite breed list, but I am basing that on appearance. I have never had any so am not sure about temperament, but they would not fare well here. We get a lot of snow in the winter.

Not a fan of cuckoo marans, either. We have had one hen that was downright MEAN to everybody else in the flock, and she was a hatchery stock cuckoo marans.

BTW, not all hatchery birds are crappy. I've met people who've done well at shows, etc., with hatchery stock. In fact, of all the birds in my flock, the only ones that don't drop like flies are the hatchery birds. All my breeder barnevelders except 4 have died by the time they were a month old, and I've had about 10. I have a lot of mixed breed chickens in my flock that are kinda funny looking, but they're hardy and robust. As long as they lay me yummy eggs that I can sell, I'm not too particular.

White faced black Spanish are my absolutely favorites in so far as appearance... they're just so strikingly gorgeous! I have 16 of them. Well, really only 15, but one is a cross-beak and is missing an eye. I just kept her because even with her disadvantages, she's vigorous, healthy, curious, and really sweet.

I have a love / hate relationship with one of my Easter Eggers at the moment. One hen lays a light olive egg maybe twice a week at best. Plus, she is flighty and the first one to peck at the others. She also is easy to handle and is kind to my 2 1/2 yr old. I have another Easter Egger hen - blue/green egg that is a great layer but not as friendly. I guess, I they are a mixed bunch in all aspects: personality, coloring, and egg laying.
