What's your least favorite breed?

Hamburgs have a reputation for flightiness, but mine are sweet and amazingly productive egg-layers for their size and food intake, too. Everybody's least favorite chicken is somebody else's best beloved.

I have had some really bad fowl-related experiences in my life, most of them related to RIRs (although the worst damage was Muscovy duck inflicted), so that's one breed I won't ever get, but Turkens and Showgirls creep me out, and I think Shamos look as if they belong in a Marx Brothers movie, in rubber.

The only ones I really have not liked have been the Blue Andalusians--the roosters are beautiful, but the hens not so much. And bantam cochins are just ok.

I've liked my silkies, buttercups, brown leghorns, orpingtons, polish (except one mean rooster), EEs--and I hope to like my new d'Uccles, La Fleche, Speckled Sussex, dorkings, penedesencas and Jersey Giants, but I LOVE my Naked Necks!

I noticed more than one post on here mentioning hatchery wyandottes. I had no idea that the hatchery wyandottes are different than another wyandotte. I'm very curious about this. How are they different?
Thank you,
CJ

I have a hatchery GL Wyandotte and she is the sweetest thing I have. She flies up on my shoulder and makes those sweet trilling noises. I was real lucky and picked an extremely friendly girl.

I'm not worried about her looks though. :p

I don't really like the looks of any "crested" bird, Silkies or crested ducks for that matter. Just the idea of it being a skull defect kind of bothers me I guess. From what I've read here, the Silkies are really sweet though, so I can see the appeal in the them. I don't really like "wild" or frou frou stuff, tons of feathers on the head, feathered legs, etc. I guess I like more streamlined simple birds. I have 2 Barred Rock pullets and they are nice, so are my Black Sex Links and my Ameraucanas. I got pretty lucky with mine (so far, I guess things could change as they mature). I definitely don't want any high strung, flighty birds. I need calm and quiet. Oh and I don't like olive-colored eggs. Just not my thing.

Interesting to see everyone's opinions.

Years ago I had a Polish from Murrays that was mean. Mostly mean to visitors, but meanish. Had a Salmon Favorelle roo as the "free exotic chick" and he was a jerk as well. Then I had a Phoenix that was sneaky and mean. Couldn't turn your back on him. I have a scar on the back of my leg where he snuck up from behind and attacked. Those experiences turned me off those breeds. I still have one last old phoenix roo and he minds his business and I mind mine.

I have a Barred Rock Roo that was dumped at our farm and he is pretty nice.

I have some turkins because they are weird looking and I have found them to be the best egg layers, and just nice birds.

I guess I will take personality over looks. It's what is inside that counts, right?
