What's your opinion on these two breeds in general...

In my opinion, both are great layers of bron eggs. When I started with my flock about a year ago, I chose the barred plymoth rock over the rhode island reds because they are more docile. The rhode island red rooters have been known to be aggressive.

Rocks ROCK. And come in lots of pretty colors. I have partridge and barred, adding blue next year or late this one.

All my Rock roos are lovely sweet, calm birds. Okay, Algernon chases the poor Tom turkey. But Jake is just such a whimp everybody wants to whoop him.

My rock girls are lap chickens.

I'm adding Delawares, as part of the ongoing partridge rock project. Mine still need some size they were production birds.

I've got barred rocks, and let me tell you, as far as disposition, they are the best chickens! Very sweet, and quite entertaining! The have the cutest personalities too. If you choose them, you won't be disappointed.
Oh, mine lay real well also!

Looks like I'm getting some Rock

I'm not really interested in the egg/eating factor, I just want a nice tame breed that isn't very spaztic.

Quite shocking but I've never eaten a home-grown chicken egg before

I have Rhode Islands and Barred Rock. They are good egg layers and can be tamed when you get them as chicks.
I think they are great breeds!
