They don't always get beards but I think I see some beards coming in. They don't have beards in this stage. My EE was the same.would they have beards already ?
A big x2 to this. Some folks are flat dishonest, but with the ameraucana/EE thing, more are just ignorant. It really stinks to find you have been mislead - in fairness, it is possible the person that sold the birds was like you and took someone (ie the hatchery, store, etc) at their word that they were buying Ameraucanas and thus had no reason to think they were not being honest about what they were selling you. For a true breeder/enthusiast, that defense goes out the window, but if it's someone somewhat new to the game or who is not well versed in the breed I could see how it could happen - which is why it is so frustrating to see this mislabeling perpetuated by the hatcheries, who in turn lead retailers to believe they are selling true birds who in turn lead consumers to believe they are buying true birds who, in turn, have no reason to think they do not have true birds in their flock -- until, at some point. Or, you may have just done business with a jerk who knew better and didn't care because they saw a chance to take advantage of someone who didn't know better, and that's even worse than the first scenario, imo.
If you really want a particular breed you might have better luck networking with the folks on the state thread for your location - they can put you in touch with more local, reputable folks to get your stock from.
I honestly believe they didn't know either. I believe they order birds and then sell them. the only thing that makes me mad is I paid more for them because I was told they were pure ameracaunas and I even asked them are you sure. I have been raising chickens for 6 years now but it is really hard to know everything and I'm getting better and telling what breed a chick is. There is just so much to know . I don't mind what I got they are awesome and I'm extremely happy with their temperament ( they are actually really sweet and like to be picked up ) which is the most important thing for me because I have children and it is one of there responsibilities to help with the chickens.
