Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

the second set of pictures is definitely not a standard Wheaton Hen. I really couldn't tell you what it is. probably a pullet but other than that it's a mix of some sort of colors I know 0 about splash or amy of those. I know very little about splash I'll only have the Wheaton and a closed flock in a breed true. you might try posting some pictures in that other Maran's thread for the black coppers there's plenty of knowledgeable people that might be able to help you out
. but I do have 1 question how old are they?

Thank you for your response Berkley :-) I'm trying to learn as I go along but seem to always come up with more questions than answers - LOL. These guys are 5 1/2 weeks old. The Marans seem to be pretty beefy birds.

Hello All,

I am looking for a pure French Wheaten cockerel from a reputable line. If anyone has any they want to trade, sell or just give to a good home I am interested. I have 10 hens and looking for a cockerel for breeding. I have Bev Davis Blue and Black Copper cockerels and a Greenfire Farms Birchen cockerel available. I live in Northern Virginia and will travel to pickup within a two hour driving time.

Thanks

Would love any opinions of my two Wheaten pullets. Their leg feathering is very light so based on that alone I'm not sure they have potential as breeders, but would love any critique of the rest of them so I can better know what to look for. Not sure if it might be too early to tell how they will turn out? I think they are about 8 weeks old (I got them when they were already a couple weeks old). Thanks in advance

I got them from a BYC'er as chicks. I really love the Wheaten but I am so new to Marans I don't at all have an eye for breed type. I really like these two a lot so I'm disappointed their leg feathering isn't more full. Hoping they might have other redeeming qualities, lol.

I've been going through this thread, and on page 130 Snowbird shows an example of a door on a barrel. I would like to know where the clips that were used as hinges are available. I would like to try some of this type of holding cage.

These are nylon from a flea market, but you can use the one's they use to hold the break fluid lines up in place on automobiles.
