Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

This is my first time with chicks. These two are 2 weeks old tomorrow. I realize that these two are probably too young to feather sex, but their seemingly dark feathers coming in, the fact that they are feathering much slower than my other breeds, their "chest bumping", and curious demeanor makes me think these are both males. What do you all think? If they are both male, anyone near Maryland want to trade me a male for a female?? :)

Yup these two are definitely male. Anyone interested in getting some new blood in their flock? I need to get rid of these guys :-/ My husband has named them... Potpie and Noodlesoup.

The two yellow ones, of course.

Here is a really silly question. ... Do Wheaten Marans develop slower than other Marans ? I have 1 Wheaten ( cockerel ) that is 3 wks old ... his hatch mates whom are Black/Blue Copper Marans have full feathered wings and their little tail feathers are coming in. This little guy has sparse wing feathers and no tail feathers and is such a fluff ball still.

I had the same question a few weeks ago. No one replied, but I can tell you that my 2 wheaten cockerels still have some fluff at 5.5 weeks old and my black copper pullet and black copper cross cockerel were fully feathered about 2 weeks ago. They look like awkward teenagers.

Can I ask how their wing feathers came in ? My little guy's feathers are curling.. its the oddest thing... I have 6-8wk old pullets that I bought from a gal and one of them has no back feathers. At first I thought she had been picked on but now I am not so sure. I am thinking so to develop... She is the youngest of the 4 I just got.
