similar, but on pure wheaten the barring is not as crispt, is faded.Or Niederrheiners? I guess that is lemon cuckoo, but kinda similar.View attachment 1431925
Those are very cool. I like them better than the rhodebars I've seen. The calico princess is topaz colored and its parents are the barred Rhode Island Red cockerel and a Sussex,
I wonder how their Barred Rhode Island Reds look like..

The Rhodebars that hatcheries sell are really bad qualityThose are very cool. I like them better than the rhodebars I've seen.
Yeah, I've never been tempted to try them. But the dark mahogany with barring on the birds in your picture is very striking. Those I would be tempted to try.The Rhodebars that hatcheries sell are really bad quality

These are RB chicks that have been improved, but still have work to be done. These will be used to back cross again to RIR .( not production reds) they are a work in progress
... but the hens look wahsed out, so the look is not quite as attractive...
I agree, while your males will be basically crele, the wheaten chick down will not lend itself to autosexing at hatchThanks again for the images, this helped me a great deal. I kept finding old threads where others were saying the same thing about the "washed out" coloring and it not being attractive, but I actually like the subtle barring and washed out look... "to each their own", I suppose.
