Chicks at the hatchery are sold out for MONTHS! The clerk said they’re selling out the sexed pullet bin in 5 minutes!!!! Instead of relying on scooping some sellable girls out of the bin I had to buy all of my overstock to sell later as 6-week old or started pullets.

But then I fell in love with way too many and ended up doubling my order. Whelp! I’m sure I will be a different person come June and easily decide which to sell.

I wanted 10 pullets and a rooster for my first flock.
My reasoning on my order: minimum shipping of 15- so I need 15.

But when they got here my assortment didn’t have Australorps- so I got the 4 that were available locally.
But I didn’t have any blue or green egg layers- they are hatching on the 18th.

So I have 19… or 30?

The struggle is real! I did the same today, started with getting just 12…… but some force caused me to check out with 21! They wont arrive until August - so I have plenty of time to expand my coop plans.

And my run is built- coop, however, is pending completion. Deadline is 1 more week- maybe I should just double the size now…

Yeah. Last year hubby said 6. I convinced him to keep 8. My son couldn’t choose and we ended up with 10.

This year. Hub said 3 more. I said 4. Son said 5…didn’t tell hub that Mt Healthy usually sends an extra. The rest of our order is claimed by friends/family. But we might accidentally end up w 6 if all arrive safely.

This doesn’t count the hatches I have planned (selling those chicks but still….)

If we had a bigger property I would probably have 100!

I had two keepers picked out and ready for my permanent flock. Then at checkout I see that they’ve raised the “pick-up” order minimum to 3… so I had to go back to the drawing board for the third. So that one ended up as 10. That I will choose between and sell 9. In theory.
