When can I give chicks garden waste?

Ok. Short story is I gave them a cabbage plant I pulled that wasn’t going to make a head. They went NUTS for it but it gave them the runs. So I know I’ve done it too early but as the garden gets going I’ll want to give them some produce. How old do they need to be?

I asked my experienced friend and she said to ask here

Hi. Welcome to BYC!
Hens start "treating" their chicks the first few days of their life. However, as you've found, this can cause stomach upset if it isn't limited.
If you do treat them be sure that they have access to grit and that the vegetables haven't been treated or fertilized with any toxins.
Also remember that if you give a child too many fruit loops they won't get their nutrients .

Welcome to BYC. New feed makes for an adjustment in the digestive system. Moderation is important. Likely the quantity of cabbage was a factor in the loose stool.
