When can I tell?

That makes since. Whenever I've ordered from Murray McMurray or any other hatchery, I've always declined on the free chick as they usually turn out to be cockerels.

Oops, sorry for the typo, I should have spelled it "sense" not "since." :o)

The chick was the "free, exotic" chick that McMurray usually includes in shipments of chicks (unless specified not to). I don't think that it matters what the rest of the order is made of- either way, they'll give you a "rare" chick.
This. I don't think they care about mixing and matching the breeds. They don't as a rule send bantams or meat birds as the freebie, but anything they consider rare or exotic is fair game.

Well, from the looks of it, I think its a pullet for now ;) the comb is very thin and yellow and she just has that 'feminine' look.
good luck on the breed!
