when can they switch to grower?

I feed a 20% protein feed that is soy-free, corn-free with a fish meal protein. For young birds in the brooder I feed it as is. For my older birds in the coop I also supply a bowl of oyster and grow a red wheat berry/whole barley/BOSS fodder mix that is about 12% protein (I do not measure it out perfectly). I have found this mix of a higher protein feed with the lower protein supplemental fodder to be much more cost effect to help with the much higher prices of the organic feed and with the end result being a protein % appropriate for the adult birds..

ChickensRDinos, can you please tell me the name of the corn free feed that you use? My chicks are only 1.5 weeks old and I feed them medicated chick grower now, but once they are ready to be switched I want to give them a feed that is corn free.

Also depends on the breed. Meat birds are usually taken of starter at a younger age. They develop and grow a lot quicker than egg layers.

I would call the feed stores around you they may be able to special order even if they do not carry a corn-free product regularly. You could also try posting in the thread on this site for your area. Most of the organic feed companies are regional. I am sure there is one by you somewhere I just have no idea what it is.
