I am a horrible chicken grandma!

I am so upset with myself. At the very welcome advice of some members (thank you!! I appreciate it) I took out the oozy egg when I got home & in the process I found two other oozy eggs. I put them each in thier own double bagged ziplock contraption and went outside. The suspect oozy egg EXPLODED when I tapped it on the porch, yellow froth came spilling out and the baggie swelled (glad I double bagged). The 2nd one I could hear liquid inside, tap, BOOM, same thing but brown liquid came out. The 3rd oozy egg I tapped and the shell fell off revealing a baby chick

The membrane stayed intact & there was no movement, so I am sure it was dead before hand. I pulled the membrane off letting loose a slight stench, and took some pics. I am glad I got the rottens out before they exploded, but angry at myself for the 3rd. I dont know why it was oozing yellow goo if there was a chick in there.

I think it died recently, I heard peeping (not sure if from this egg) lastnight, had a temp drop overnight and havent heard anything since. I am afraid our whole hatch is a bust. So far 2 rotten & 1 dead out of 9.

Hi, BUG126 , my guess would be sometime in the last 2, maybe 3 days of developement. The yolk looks to be almost absorbed. Sometimes these things happen for no reason. I, just today opened some eggs that had chicks that pipped the inner membrane but not the shell. And from the same batch have 5 babies hatched with no problems. I have NO idea why (never had it happen like this before).

Looks developed enough to have drowned when it broke into the air cell before pipping. Might want to try a bit lower humidity. Sorry for the loss. Always hard.

Hmmm....maybe, anything is possible. I have been worried that my humidity was too low. I cant seem to keep my LG above 53%. I will definatley keep that in mind the next hatch we try.

On that one that you posted the pics of, you indicated the shell was oozing? That's an indicator of bacteria getting in, so this chick would not have made it to hatch. Sorry about your loss. It seems that often they do die in the last 2-3 days. It's a good thing you got the bad ones out before they exploded!!

All you can do is the best you can do - don't beat yourself up! You learn from each hatch, and just try to remember those lessons and move on to the next hatch. Sorry if I sound harsh, that's not intended. But, it doesn't do any good to feel badly, because you did all you could! I'm SURE you'll get a few to hatch! Keep us posted, okay?

We also run a LG and our first run we had a oozie egg and so I went dry incubation after that and have had no further problems. Our humidity stays at about 52% and I transfer the eggs to our home built hatcher on day 19 and only put a small glass of water in there for the duration of the hatch. Since doing it this way we have maintained a 90 to 100% hatch rate on the last 8 or 9 egg runs.

I am very confused about the oozing egg thing. I had some eggs shipped to me and when I took off the bubble wrap there was some yolk on some of the eggs, but none of them were cracked. The yellow stuff was in the bubble wrap with the eggs. I put them in the incubator not knowing what it was and why. Does anyone think they bad eggs with bacteria? I looked at all my eggs last night and none of them are "oozing" now. Any ideas on what I should do. I have a lot of eggs in the bators and I really don't all of them ruined. Please any advise would be appreciated.
