I got my first chickens about 2 1/2 years ago. Sally my NH RED (I had 2, Jack but something got him one night :(
Luna my Cohin bantam
Camilla and Pandora luna's babies, but i hatched
Izzy white crested polish
Hazel cuckoo maran
and i am expecting 4 fertile light Bahama eggs next week

So my craziness started last year, and more so with each chicken I got. I have found myself talking to people about my chickens, stopped myself from pulling out pics of my chickens when I go to agway (the feed store)

When I have actually pulled out pics of my chickens to show people and tell them stories about my chickens

When I can see my boyfriend is just humoring me when i tell them about my chicken's days and the funny things they do

When I am sitting in my chickens area letting them jump all over me and it looks like I got attacked by a cat, when I rearrange their coops at least once to week because I think I can make it better and more comfy for them

when I realize I am standing or sitting with them having conversations with them.

When someone doesn't see how wonderful chickens are and I get all offended.

When did you realize you crossed the line from chicken owner to the one that the chickens own.

I also have 4 ducks which I also spoil lol

I have 5 kids and they are all grown my oldest being 31, and 4 grandkids and 1 on the way,
so now they all can take care of themselves, so now my chickens are my babies LOL

Ahhhh... yes. Well, not crazy chicken lady, but crazy duck lady. That would be almost sixteen years ago. Someone gave me two ugly Muscovy ducks. They hatched out some babies. The babies were dozens of different colors.

All excited, I went to the internet and started asking "What are these colors????" And people thought I was nuts. I became determined to figure out every single color that exists.

It became my life goal to figure out every color of Muscovy!!! THEY ARE SO PRETTY, I NEED ALL OF THE COLORS. MY DUCKS.

What was I saying? Oh, ya... about sixteen years ago, I got these two ducks. They laid some eggs and hatched out some babies.......

hehe hehe hehe...

LOL all your replies made me actually laugh out loud.

wow 300 chicks a year, that's awesome

I got my ducks this year and already started turning into a crazy duck lady too..

I've had chickens for most of the last forty years.
I've been involved with about every aspect of chickens you can expect except raising meat birds.
There's been times I've hatch 100+ chicks a week. The list goes on and on.
I'm not chicken crazy now or ever been.
I hear the craziest things on here. From the mellow enough of letting your chickens crawl all over you to house chickens to dressing up chickens and the list goes on and on.
I have came to the conclusion that most are not chicken crazy.
They're merely crazy and happen to have chickens.

I was 12. We were dirt poor living w/ my grandmother and it was my birthday. Mom was going to fry some chicken for dinner. She asked me what would you like for your Bday? Knowing she had nothing I said I want one of those chickens. Confusion crossed her face. "I already told you I was going to fry them" I said, No, you dont understand I want one of them for a pet. BEST gift ever ! She was a RIR and as sweet as could be.
We had an ice storm come up a month after my Bday and mom woke me up and said Hun, I got some bad news. You little hen is dead. Froze solid to the ground. I went out and got the shovel and broke the ice away and pried her from the ground leaving some wing feathers stuck there. I heard baaakkkkk . I put her under the house and she thawed out but she never was right in the head after that. She brought "presents" to the porch and left them for us. Once was a half frozen baby copperhead. I went without chickens for many years but I never lost my love for them.

I was an accidental chicken owner. The following spring when I added to the flock was when I realized I had crossed over. I’m sure it was before then I just didn’t know it.

Chicken math got me my first time out buying chickens. I went to pick up 4 FBCM and someone said “Oooh! What are those?!” Then I realized I said it and came home with 2 Wheaten Ameraucanas as well.

I too rearrange the coop and run— and fuss to make things “better”. The chickens don’t seem to mind as long as I keep spoiling them while I do it.

I have frozen goodies and tubs of frozen water for hot days. Not to mention the fans I have in the coop.

I have full on conversations with them. I recently got video of myself and a young pullet not quite at POL going back and forth.

I tell them to behave and be nice when I leave the coop. And check them at bedtime to make sure everyone is ok.

To date I have roughly 1500 chicken pictures in my phone. (That’s the current phone)

I guess you know it’s bad when people see you and you get “Hi. How are the chickens?”

And I’m house hunting with top priority being take the chickens.

I feel so at home here on BYC. I officially was called the Chicken Lady by a group of my friends, for saying I give my girls cold cucumbers and vanilla yogurt when it’s over 90 and that I clamp the cucumber to the fence so it doesn’t get dirty or waste any. Kinda hurt my feelings when they laughed and shook their heads.
