When did you start with chickens?

I was kind of a weird child and loved all kinds of animals. So when I was 11 years old I walked to the local live poultry market and picked up a large rooster and a hen (now I know they were barred rocks) and brought them home for pets.

The problem came when my parents got home from work and found them strutting around on our piano in the living room. Did I forget to mention that I lived in sixth floor arpartment in the heart of Brooklyn, NY??

You know I was really upset that they would not let me keep them for more than a week. But they did go to a friend of my Mom's that lived in the country and already had chickens. So I could visit them occasionally.

Anyhow always had the bug and now I live in a rural town with a large lot and eight lovely hens to lay me eggs.

All my life. We lived in suburbia when I was a small child, we had bantams. (what city code?) then when we moved to the country it was all out. My dad gave me 200 straight run and I raised them all but one lost. My mom and I sold eggs, she would let me keep the money if I delivered the eggs. On the farm we raised our own everything. Now I have a very cool pen, and 19 lovely ladies. And a husband who never thought he would enjoy raising chickens.
