When did your Australorps start laying?

Back in June, I got two Black Australorps and a New Hampshire Red at a local swap. The Australorps are now about 22 weeks old and the NH Red is about 19 weeks old but I haven't seen any eggs yet. Should I be worried? When I had Red Stars I think they started laying at around 18-19 weeks.

I have a flock of 6 including Australorps and New Hampshire Reds. They are around 22 weeks now and still no eggs. There is a chance they have ben laying in a place I cannot find since they free range during the day, but none in the nest boxes so far. From what I have gathered from other people's posts, chickens will lay eggs when they are good and ready. Keep up the watch and patience, it will happen soon! Good luck : )

If I remember correctly, my BA started between 22 & 24 weeks. So, I'd say, you should see something soon. Good luck!

I have five Australorp hens, seven Buff Orphington hens and one Australorp rooster. They laid four eggs for the first time yesterday. I am so proud of them! They will be five months old on the 28th. of this month (October) This means that four of the twelve started laying a week and one day before turning five months old. The shells are hard and beautiful. I fed organic chick starter, along with organic garden scraps, seeds from the squash and some high protein treats. I feed oatmeal with a little flax seed about once a month as they love it. Just started them on organic layer yesterday, but still add about a third of the grower, since not all have that nice red comb yet. Good luck to you! B.T.W., they were free ranging some days, untill my doberman, shot gun and I had to ward off some predators, looking for dinner. My birds are very large, but that did not stop them from getting way too close for comfort. The have a large front porch and 20 x 20 covered turnout area, which we will extend.
