When did your Barred Rocks start laying?

My brahma was 6 months old in that picture. Now she's 1 1/2.

When your brahma squats, you will be close enough that you can pet her. Give her a good rubbing down her back and she'll get up and fluff off.

Thank you! So I can probably safely assume my girl is around 5 months. Thank you for the tips

She is friendly, but just a little skittish around me. She is getting real close to taking treats from my hands though, which is an improvement. She LOVES frozen grapes, they are her favorite

My Barred Rock was my first layer of 13 at 19 weeks. She's the only one giving me an egg a day. She's also my sweetest.

One or more of my barred rocks have laid 2 eggs since my production reds started laying, 4th of July weekend. I'm guessing my birds were 2 weeks old when I got them (they had feathers) so, I'm guessing they are 19 weeks old as of Tuesday, so let's say at 18 weeks the BR laid her first egg. I saw the BR come out of the nest box and there was a big egg in it. My red ladies are laying daily, but the eggs are smaller. Every 3 or 4 days I find one big egg. I have 3 BR hens, at least one does not have the submissive squat going when I reach toward her. She's got a good set of legs too. But all of them are getting their bright red combs, so it shouldn't be too long before I have more eggs daily than I can eat. And the lady at the feed store told me I needed 10 hens....

My barred rock began laying at 19 weeks, and has been giving us an egg every day since! I was astonished! I had no idea she would lay every day!!! She is such a great chicken -- also has the best personality. She lets us pet her, and comes over to socialize with us -- even if we don't have snacks for her!

She is out-producing our EE, and our other two hens still haven't started to lay at all. I wonder if she is giving the other girls self-esteem issues... ha ha ha....

Well since you got your Brahma at the time close to when she will start laying-- I bet it will take her a little longer (month or so) to start because chickens need emotional adjustment to their new environment. Maybe a month and a half, around the time when the pecking order with your other chickens is fully established and she is more used to you. She is beautiful!
