When do buff brahmas start laying?

I have 4 buff brahma hens (and three roosters!) that are 18 weeks old today and I think there combs are starting to get redder. I'm so anxious for them to start laying. I've already culled several roosters from the flock and I think I may go down to just the one since there are only 4 chicks. I'm not sure if the rooster situation is stressful for them (they aren't fighting much since I culled the aggressive ones). Any ideas on when Brahma's typically start laying? When did yours start? Pictures please if you have them! Thx!

On average Brahmas start laying at around 30 weeks. I have heard of some early starters, laying aged 20-22 weeks, but that is not very common.

My brahmas are 24 wks old Tom and they just started laying last Wednesday!! It was just one at first and now two are and my RIR just waiting for my littlest but lay one to have an egg I know waiting patiently is so hard i was so excited when we got our first egg I almost fell running into the house to show my husband lol

Mine just layed their first eggs today at 23 weeks!!

I got a buff brahma from a friend who was raising chicks for meat. this was the only hen in a group of roosters and they were picking on her pretty bad. she's just about 6 or 6 1/2 months old. i'm wondering, will she be a slow one to start laying, since she was pretty stressed out when I got her? she's pretty good now, just her and 2 red stars at my house. she's not super friendly, but seems to be coming out of her shell. she's good sized and so pretty! i'm new to chickens, so am just curious what to expect. thanks!

Buff Brahma's are slow to develop compared to other chickens but if they have a proper diet and the proper environment you should be seeing eggs soon. Stress can stop them from laying as well as less daylight during the winter. I would guess she will start laying soon especially since she seems to be coming out of her shell already. Good luck!

Mathew, thanks for the reply! that's kind of what I was thinking, but it's reassuring to hear it from someone with more experience than me! and here's a pic of her. this was the day after I got her and she was still a bit shy. you can see where the roosters picked her feathers, poor thing. but she's doing much better already!

You're welcome. She looks very pretty and her wattles/combs are red so she probably will lay soon once she is comfortable.
