When do chickens lay?

My 2 ISA Browns lay between 7 and 9 in the morning. Both of them have not missed a day since they started almost 3 weeks ago. The RIR started 5 days ago and this is here pattern:
Day 1- Large Egg around 10:00 AM
Day 2- Small Egg around 9:00 AM -One shell-less egg 7:00 PM
Day 3- No egg
Day 4- Small Egg around 11:00 AM
Day 5- Medium Egg around noon

Mine seem to all lay mostly by noon but sometimes one will lay a little later. They too like to all use the same nest box and I have even caught two at a time in the one box. Lots of luck.

Terry4-- it took my hen awhile ( 2:45-5pm) to lay her egg. I noticed her breathing heavily and trying to hide under my patio furniture& the BBQ. She later ran in the coop, situated her nesting box, and decided to lay her egg near the dogs kennel. We were so proud of her. I made her some spaghetti noodles:)

I have 10 chickens all 22 weeks old,3 white rocks started laying at 17 weeks, 3 Red sex links at 18 weeks, 2 barred rocks just started and 2 RIRs 1 started about 19 weeks and 1 still not laying. All eggs before noon.

My crested cream leg bar lays beween 1-7pm i think 12:30 is the earliest she has ever laid.. I have read several articals suggesting feed with higher protien content (game bird starter) will get your chick laying more and regularly it uped mine from 2 a week to almost every day she takes of 1 day a week aprox i have also read that caianne pepper helps but i havent tried that...

It is supposed to take 25 hours for the hen to produce and lay an egg. So if on day #1 she lays at 10 am , on day#2 it would be 11am and so on and so on ........once she gets to 5pm with daylight failing she will skip a day and the whole process will start again the next morning.
I should add , that there are of course forces of nature that will upset the laying pattern. Molting, brooding, winter etc.

I have a book called backyard poultry and they have an article about the process of an egg.It is totally awesome most hens start laying at 10 months.they need at least 10 hours of daylight that's why in the fall and winter you will get one hen to lay every other day.some put a light on them with a timer in winter to get them to lay everyday.Hope this helps
