When do cockerels start to crow?

In the future, you may find this Topic to be helpful for posting your birds and getting the communities help on gender or breed. I've used it myself, as I am VERY bad at sexing birds - and I'm raising mutts, which blurs the reliability of some of the trraits that make ID more reliable in some breeds.

The 1:10 roo/hen recommend is for fertility, NOT behavior, just as an FYI. I personally find that a young rooster can provide acceptable (to me) levels of fertile eggs with more like 16 hens, perhaps as much as 20 (though there my fertility was only about 80% - i didn't continue it for long, so that's brief anecdote, not hard data)

Rooster behavior is really unpredictable, and is influenced more by relative ages, sizes, pecking order, possibly breed, individual rearing, and individual genetics. There are no guarantees - and behavior *can* change (for good or ill) every time the flock's pecking order dynamics are rearranged by the loss of a dominant, or the addition of a new member into adulthood. The ratios may make certain behaviors more or less concerning (by offering more, or fewer, targets), but 1:10 isn't a guarantee. Just as an FYI.
