When do EE's lay eggs?

I have one who layed at about 20, two I'm waiting on (and they're about 20 now). Look for the comb to get beet red and about double in size about a week or two before they lay. I've heard they often go to even 28 weeks though, so not early layers by any stretch.

Mine finally laid around 28 weeks and the dang things are cream colored!

I was really looking forward to blue or green eggs.

Mine are 27 weeks and I'm still waiting. I think since they are a mutt breed of sorts there can be large variations in their laying start times. Figures I got the two on the late end of the spectrum. Hope they start soon.

Where did you get yours?

Has anyone gotten theirs from Estes? I'm wondering about the color quality there...I suppose I'll be able to say in a few weeks...

My 2 EE hens laid at 25 (Slagathor) and 27 (Barbie) weeks.

My first EE laid at 18 weeks then 3 more started the following week. My husband thinks its all the treats that i give. I have never missed a day of giving them treats or scraps...most days they get something 3 times a day.

They love wheat seed, grapes, noodles, raisins, apples, lettuce, squash, bread, cereal, oatmeal, corn on the cob our of the garden, stuff like that. They are let out to free range each evening for 2 to 3 hours before bedtime.

Ive heard that you dont want your chickens to lay to early though so if you are still waiting for eggs, keep in the back of your mind it might be more healthy for them in the long run.
