At about what day do eggs start rocking? I saw my egg rocking this afternoon and I am trying to decided if it is time for lockdown. This was a broody hatch and my broody quit sitting, so I don't know what day we are on. So I had to put them in the bator. If anyone knows what day they start rocking it would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to decide if I need to turn the egg or not.

Thanks,
Michelle

When I have went into lockdown on day 18 I have seen some of my eggs start rocking. They are getting in position to hatch.

Yes if you put the eggs in on the first, you count the 2nd morning as day 1 and so on. I have seen my eggs wiggle from day 18 on. I don't do anything to encourage it. I have to keep a good eye on my granddaughter to not touch the bator. Don't worry when an active egg stops moving. It's still okay.

I've never seen eggs of my own start rocking before day 20. It usually goes together with cheeping, meaning they've broken through the membrane to the air cell, and pipping isn't far off. I'd imagine yours are ready for lockdown right now. What a pity your broody chose to quit so late on in the game. Are you going to try giving the chicks back to her?

After asking the same question (on this forum) and getting mostly "yes" for the answer, I put mine in lockdown. That was this past Sunday. As of this morning, all my eggies are now warm and fuzzy and noisy little chickies!

Happy Thanksgiving!

My eggs are rocking on day 15/16? Prob hatch early temps have been higher than I aimed for... Any words of wisdom? Should I lock down early?
