Being a newbee to the world of chickens (and lovin every minute of it!) and my hens are now 18 weeks old - I'm starting them on layer formula this weekend I wanted to know when I should see eggs? Also, they keep throwing the straw out of the nesting boxes - should I put more or something different?

The average time for hens to start laying is 18 to 20 weeks. It has nothing to do when you start them on layer feed. My hens started laying @ 19 weeks and I started them on layer feed then.
