Hi all, New to site, Love it ! I am getting into breeding game chickens and i live in south carolina. Can anyone tell me when my hens should start laying? Thanks

If you give them 12-14 hours of light a day, they will lay all year round unless sick or in molt.
On that thought, are they in molt? If so they will start laying when molt is over.

When they start to lay depends on the breed really. I suppose climate may have a slight bit to do with it but not really. Some will start 4 months (Rhode Island Red, Isa brown) old while others need 6 months. (Orphingtons and Autralorps). And then there are exceptions in every breed. You will notice the girls will squat when you reach out to them, they will be scratching around in the nest boxes. These are your signs that it is getting close.

It dont realy look like the hens are molting yet, But the roosters are for sure !
