You should also be able to see the beginnings of a network of blood vessels inside the shell.
We are using a small, bright LED flashlight and have been told by others that that's what they're using, as well. I think you can buy an actual instrument for it, though, if you are going to do this long term. We probably will invest in ALL the equipment eventually, but right now we're just backyard hobbyists.
