When do Muscovy begin laying in spring?

My muscovies have been laying eggs since Summer, but they have began laying more now in Autumn. I will begin to breed them soon, but at the moment I’m just giving my girls a break. I’ve had muscovies that have hatched young in winter before.

When I’ve asked the same question, “some time in March” has been the most frequently given answer (for those in the Northern Hemisphere), although I’m sure that it can vary based off of location. The laying season is primarily dependent on sunlight, and ducks require a certain number of hours of light before they will lay. If you supplement using artificial light, you may get eggs earlier. My two Muscovy hens (9 months old) have yet to lay. I feel as though Muscovy hens may start a bit later than Mallard derived hens, although I don’t know if that’s true.

Thanks for the helpful response. I can’t wait to have baby Scovy!
