At the earliest, 6 weeks. (and trust me, those first crows are not pretty. They sound like creaking doors. Somehow, I find them adorable.)How old are yours?
I have had roosters start to crow anywhere from three weeks old (sounds like strangulated gargling ) to 8+ months old. Depends on the rooster and whether there are other roosters around he can hear.
he might be a late crower. and that is perfectly fine. 6 weeks is the earliest they crow for me. (and when i say crow, i mean a real crow. but, it is true, a lot of them start trying a 3 weeks. they will throw their head back and open their beak. The first few times, there is no sound at all. after a couple tries, it sounds like he is making a strangled cry.)He will be 7 weeks on Tuesday!
My Wyandotte Roo Crowed at 10 weeks for the first time when he first crowed - It was a weird noise.
Most of my other roosters crowed between 8 weeks and 12 weeks. It's cute until they sit outside your windows at 4 am and start that racket. I am no longer a fan of roos. They are good eating at 12 weeks. - I know I sound horribly awful but I have had my issues in the past with Mean Roosters. I have had some beautiful ones, one super sweet one and I have no problem sending a rooster to freezer camp.
