When do roosters mature?

I had one that tried to mate at three weeks, but they are about 5 months when they can fertilise eggs.

The black one is a cockerel, not sure about the other two. If you had 17 hens and 2 Roos you should be fine. 16 hens and 3 Roos might be stretching it but as long as they get along and your hens stay healthy it would certainly be worth a try!

Why would he chase and fight them now? At such a young age?

They may need more space.

I agree. I think the m seeing a few cockerels.

I've always followed the ratio of 1 rooster per 10 hens. Otherwise, there can be fighting over the girls and the girls get worn out and stressed.
