when do silkies start brooding

hi all, i bought 2 silkies today and they are 12 weeks old i am mad to get chicks and as its my first time with silkies i was wondering when should they start brooding and could i get chicks this summer or will it be next year

My first broody Silkie started at 11 months old. She laid eggs for about a month then decided she wanted to sit. My Silkies had to go thru the cold weather though. Given that yours are growing out during the warmer months they might start laying/brooding much earlier.
