I have a Speckled Sussex & Silver Laced Wyndotte that are roughly 27 weeks. When should I expect them to start laying? The Wyndotte's comb & wattle are dark red. The Sussex is a lighter shade.
Any day now. If you free range it's possible she's already laying. We have 2 not-purebred sussex (I think), and they started laying at 6 and 6.5 months. We free range them, so it's possible they were laying earlier and we just didn't find the eggs. Then we cooped the hens up because the roosters were fighting over the hens (we need to butcher our beloved roosters but don't have the guts to yet), and lo and behold eggs started appearing.
